History

— Idea & history —

We have named our restaurant after and out of respect for Miss Barner, the former owner of the present land register. Regitze Barner was a noblewoman from Copenhagen who, at the age of 16, experienced a Christian awakening and subsequently dedicated her life to helping young women escape poverty, crime, and life on the streets. From 1889 until her death in 1911, she ran a home, Bethania, for women of moderate means here in Helgolandsgade 8.
Frk. Barners Kælder is inspired by the authentic Danish cooking from Regitze Barner’s time. For us, this means using only the best Danish produce. We cook homemade food in abundance and serve our traditional dishes and accompaniments in familiar and unpretentious surroundings. This means food the way our grandmother cooked it and beer and aquavit the way our grandfather drank it. In addition to our outdoor terrace and a la carte restaurant, we have a pleasant banqueting room for up to 50 guests. Please talk to the waiter if you want to book tables for family gatherings, Christmas lunches, birthday parties, company arrangements etc.

We hope you enjoy your meal and have a pleasant time in Frk. Barners Kælder.
